This month of August keeps bringing the summer rythm of concerts: traveling around with Sant Andreu Jazz Band, from Barcelona (on the 4th) to St. Moritz, Switzerland (from 29th to September 4th); on the 3rd in Cardona, with the trio; presenting Joan Mar Sauqué in L’Estartit, on the 13th, and with the quintet on the 26th, in Igualada.
And there’s something else too: on August 23rd, 24th and 25th there’s a new project opening at Jamboree, in Barcelona: La Màgia de la Veu & Jazz Ensemble during San Miguel Mas i Mas Festival. 6 concerts (double session each of the days) that will become a celebration of the voice –and jazz music in general– through XXth century classics.
Joan Chamorro presents… The Magic of Voice & Jazz Ensemble
This time, Joan Chamorro retakes La Màgia de la Veu (The Magic of Voice), adding the voices and instruments of Alba Armengou (sax, trumpet), Alba Esteban (saxs, clarinet), Elia Bastida (violin and tenor sax) and Abril Saurí (trumpet).
With Andrea Motis, Rita Payés, Joan Mar Sauqué, Joan Codina, Joan Martí, Josep Traver, Ignasi Terraza, Esteve Pi, and Chamorro himself, they will play last century’s standards with special arrangements for “small big band” written by Joan Monné.
Following on from the original La màgia de la veu album, Joan Chamorro’s quartet presents a new episode of this project, with the voices of Andrea Motis, Magalí Datzira, Rita Payés and Alba Armengou. Through these four very young singers and instrumentalists, Joan Chamorro’s quartet has prepared a repertoire paying tribute to the great ladies of jazz, including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington. A re-reading of the classics with this country’s new jazz generation.
